October

In the spirit of catching up…

This past October (2009) we decided, nearly on a whim, to pack up and take a trip to California/Disneyland.
Disneyland is always a fun place, and it seemed like good timing where we were out from under our mortgage payment, and hadn’t starting building the house yet.

We went the week before Halloween – and had a ball!

Spencer was just a tiny bit nervous about the characters (and some of the rides). He never cried, but he sure clung to us a lot.

This was “The REAL Snow White” – She was an awesome actress and completely wonderful with Bridget. We were incredibly impressed. Bridget still (almost 3 months later) talks about the real snow white and how she lives in a castle in the sky.

Believe it or not, Bridget’s favorite ride was the Tower of Terror. She was tall enough to ride this year – and did at LEAST 14 times during our trip.

At the princess’ dinner. Cinderella was in second place for most impressive princess.

She loved Splash Mountain too… the kid is fearless, I tell you!

Dumbo…

Aunt Jenna came and hug out with us out there for a couple of days!! We had a great time with her!

At the blue bayou with Aunt Jenna!

At Halloween time Disneyland does this trick or treat thing at night. It was pretty fun to see all the characters dressed up and wander around collecting candy – which was handed out by the handful, by the way. Here we all are with Mickey and Minnie.

The witch from Snow White did an awesome job staying in character. She just kept this sour mean face on the whole time – I don’t think Bridget knew what to think.

We also bet the Bowler Hat Man (Goob) – Very cool!

We spent a lot of time at Disneyland, some times later into the evening too. It was not uncommon for one (or both) of the kids to just crash mid festivities. Here are some cute sleeping pictures of our tired little troopers!

While in California, we also went to a beach in La Jolla. It was a bit chilly, but still tons of fun!

One of Spencer’s favorite activities was chasing Seagulls. He couldn’t ever catch one though – and actually sat and cried a couple of times because of it.

Dave buried Bridget in the sand – she thought that was great!

Spencer also loved playing with the seaweed. Weird kid.

We (mostly Dave) made this cool looking crater out of sand. It was a challenge to build it quick enough that water didn’t pour in when the tide came up. The little girl in the pink came over to ‘help’ toward the end, and laid claim on our masterpiece as we were leaving.

We also went to the San Diego zoo…

The Pandas were the coolest thing there.

And we got to stop in and see my grandmother and my uncle Carl in Long Beach. The kids took an immediate liking to Carl.

It sure was fun to see them. Love you guys!!!!

THEN THERE WAS HALLOWEEN…
We made it back from California the day before Halloween. Justย  in time to dawn our outlandish costumes and trick or treat in my parents’ neighborhood.

You may remember the chaos surrounding our costumes last year…
If not, let me refresh your memory. Look here, here, here and here.

We decided to use the same costumes again, figuring that Bridget may not be big enough to fit into hers again next year. But we didn’t have one for Spencer, so we decided to turn the stroller into a cart of scream canisters. It proved to be nearly as lengthy process as any of the costumes from last year… but that seems to be just how it goes around here!

I’ll spare you the ‘making of’ pictures this time – but here are some pictures of the finished scream canisters:

And here we all are, ready to roam the neighborhood.

I would have to say that we had a pretty fun October!
Happy Halloween (in January) everyone!

Wow, congrats on getting that all posted! I have to say, it was Totally worth the wait!!! The CA pictures are awesome. I love the Real snow white, that’s funny. And the picture of Bridget and Spencer asleep together in the stroller is too cute!
BTW, I wondered how you were gonna top last year’s Halloween…and I think you did awesome on the scream canister stroller! You are incredibly creative. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love how the canisters turned out. Fun pictures. Thats nice that you got to see your Grandma and Uncle too. It’s amazing what kids will remember. Jacob has never been to Disneyland but since Kevin’s parents are taking us all in June he says “Go see Grandma Grandpa in June go Disneyland” The last time we went was when Luke was four months old. I have to say I’m a bit nervous about camping on the beach with five kids, but I’m sure it will be an adventure. Woo hoo October down, now you only have two more months and your caught up ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow you are amazing! Those costumes are AMAZING! I can’t believe you made them! You are a woman of many talents! I am jealous-those are sooooo cute!
Disneyland looks fun too! I would love to take Brooklyn! Is the last week in Oct. a good time to go? Was it very crowded?

  • Aunt Frances

I just decided to catch up on your “always entertaining” blog —- and once again I am impressed anew by your wide range of talents.

I love the dress Livie made for Bridget — next time Sierra is over, I’ll have to let her see the pictures of Bridget.

  • Tina

Actually, it was Francine that made the Dorothy dress, not Livia. And she did an amazing job!
