Artificial Intelligence

February 24th, 2009 · 3 Comments · college life, dave, techno geeks

Dave is taking a game development course at the University right now. He and his team recently completed a Tetris game for the XBOX 360. His major contribution to the project was the AI (Artificial Intelligence).

Watching the computer play the game is very interesting indeed.

This picture is after about 3 hours of game play (I think). Notice the lines cleared.
And this is nothing. The AI can play the better part of a day.

You’d have to ask him what the maximum lines eliminated is (or at least what he’s seen it play), or what algorithm he used. My little brain can only comprehend it at a surface level. I do know it involves making decisions that would yield the highest score, clear the most possible lines at once, and not let the board build up past a certain point… but the ends and outs of HOW exactly he made that happen, that’s Dave’s area.

I’m just here to brag about my husband a little.

Anyway, if you care to watch it play, here’s a little video clip…

He’s working on an Asteroids game now.

Hey! I took a few minutes to catch up on your blog today. I always love your posts and I’m so amazed that you still find the time to keep up on blogging with 2 little ones. I still haven’t figured that out 🙂

Oh, I forgot to say that Chris has wanted to take the same class that Dave is taking. Chris is a huge gamer and always wanted to work for a gaming company. It’s not a family-friendly career though, so I’m glad he chose a different path! Here’s to very intelligent husbands who can such complicated concepts!
