Did it crash??? Is the page just down or something?

I haven’t been able to access any google-powered sites for the last couple of hours. I’ve NEVER seen Google down? Kinda odd.

Happy Birthday Lucy!

March 6th, 2009 · random

Today is Lucy’s birthday!

She’s officially 37 dogs-years old. Or, 6 human years. She’s a really good dog (most of the time), and we really like having her as part of our family.

We celebrated her birthday a little early, since Dave had to go out of town today.  We made yummy cupcakes and shared them with Bridget’s “preschool” class.

Lucy got some portraits taken wearing a crown and a tutu. Bridget was really kind to let Lucy borrow her things for the picture.

Lucy wasn’t so sure she liked this idea. But she was being bribed with dog treats.

Still. She hated it.

But not as much as the birthday hat we made her wear last year… either that, or she has gotten used to me and my silly ideas about pictures. Speaking of  last years birthday celebration. Its kind of fun to see how much Bridget has grown. Wow! I’m sure Lucy has grown too… its just not as obvious.

Here are the pictures of the annual can of wet dog food Lucy gets to consume on her birthday. We even lit a candle.

Bridget helped her blow it out.

And Lucy went to town. Little did she know she’d have to wear the dreaded birthday hat again. She didn’t seem to mind as much though since she was eating while she wore it.

Here is a quick picture of the kids with Lucy.

Happy Birthday little Lucy!!

Homework

March 5th, 2009 · bridget

She’s been asking a lot lately if I have any homework for her to do. I’ve ended up printing a bunch of random worksheets from various online resources… she can sit for an hour doing worksheet after work sheet. She gets so excited too… “I did it!”

Hopefully this enthusiasm lasts through high school and college.

Does anyone else print “homework” for their kids?? What are your favorite resources? I’d like to have some variety.

Tummy [Sleep] Time

March 4th, 2009 · spencer

Spencer still struggles with holding his head up a little. He’s getting better, but really can’t do it for very long.

He’s just a little big wobbly still.

The recommendation is tummy time, right… to get them to practice raising their heads. We try that here. He has tummy time daily. The problem is that 80-90% of the time he just falls asleep within a couple of minutes.

I guess he’s just really comfortable on his tummy. Too bad they don’t recommend that for nap time. “Back-to-sleep” they say… Well, Spencer sneaks in little tummy naps during tummy time anyway. The little punk.

I do think its cute/funny, but its not doing much for his head control practice.

Often, I end up going in and covering him up and letting him sleep it out. Typically he’s down for about half an hour before Bridget decides he wants to wake up… such a helpful child she is. And by then he’s usually kind of mad, and tummy time is over.

One day he’ll figure it out.

Button trouble

March 3rd, 2009 · dave, domestic attempts, random

This is a picture of the button on Dave’s pants. (Or at least half of it)
He came home the other night and asked me if I could fix a button for him… usually when he asks that, the button is really loose or missing. This was unexpected. And pretty random and odd, if you ask me.

Have any of you ever broken a button in half like that?

The Sharpener

March 2nd, 2009 · bridget

Bridget has recently taken an interest in sharpening pencils. She can often be found with a handful of them and a sharpener nearby.

And they all get sharpened, whether they need it or not.

I guess its a good thing pencils are cheap. I wonder how long this fascination will last…

AdSense

March 1st, 2009 · random, techno geeks

You may have noticed that my blog is now suddenly home to random google-generated ads.

You may find this weird or annoying. If so, I’m sorry…

I’d heard a lot about AdSense in the past. I’ve heard success stories of people using it for advertising on their sites… and I even know some websites/blogs that fund their giveaways solely from the advertising done on their web page. All of this intrigued me.

So I thought I’d give it a try.

I know that my readership isn’t that of a lot of these other big dogs… but I figure it can’t hurt to give it a try and see how well it works.

So thats the motive to my madness.

And, maybe one day (in 6 years when more than 4 people read this thing) I’ll have grandeur giveaways too. I’m not holding my breath though.

In the meantime please excuse the ad-related clutter.

Thanks!

Hurley has a blog!

February 28th, 2009 · dave, random

Yes, I mean Jorge Garcia.

Yep. Hurley. From LOST.

I was blog hopping a couple of nights ago and found this picture on cakewrecks.com:

In case you can’t tell, its the island. Complete with the computer from the hatch, a crashed plane, a 4-pk of Dharma beer and a handful of the main characters. Apparently this cake was made by Ace of Cakes for a celebration of the 100th episode of LOST.

Very cool, if you ask me.

At any rate, the post from Cake Wrecks linked to Jorge Garcia’s (Hurley) blog, where he has even more pictures of it.

I spent an hour or so that night poking around on his blog. I was pretty impressed. I think its cool that he blogs about normal everyday things (like growing tomatoes, and his dog). Its interesting to see that these actors lead regular lives like the rest of us. Seriously, his blog as average and honest as any other blog I read… and I think that was the best part.

In case it isn’t completely obvious by now… we are pretty big fans of LOST around here. As far as favorites go, Hurley is Dave’s. So it was pretty entertaining for him to look at the blog too… his first comment was, “Wait. You mean, Hurley’s just a regular guy?”

Yup.

In perusing his blog, we learned a few things…

1. Jorge doesn’t golf (unlike his character Hurley)
2. Baby Aaron is actually played by a baby girl named Sabrina. Or maybe several different babies…
3. He shops with coupons (or did at least once)
4. Likes to carve pumpkins
5. And take pictures of himself doing funny things (or pics of random items)
6. He plants a garden.
7. And even made a heart-shaped breakfast on Valentines day

…see what I’m saying… just normal stuff…

Thanks for that Jorge. We think you’re cool!!

Anyway Jorge/Hurley, on the off chance you google your name and somehow come across this entry on my blog, I just have one question… What would it take to get an autographed jar of Dharma ranch dressing?

You think I’m kidding? I’m not.

Dave (my husband) has a birthday coming up next month, and he has mentioned wanting to get something Dharma. With Hurley being his favorite character, the Dharma ranch seems only fitting. Either that or a Dharma van… but I imagine they are a little harder to come by. lol!

If the Dharma ranch won’t work, you could always just come to his birthday party. Make a cameo or something… ya know, if you want to.
Anyway.

Haha.

The point here is that Hurley has a blog. A cool down to earth normal sort of blog. And you should all go check it out.

P.S… My maternal grandmother’s maiden name is Garcia. I think we’re related.

Photos

February 27th, 2009 · random, Uncategorized

As in free portraits.

Yep. That’s right. This lady is giving away 3 free sessions! Check it out.

I know what you’re thinking… “Don’t you take your own photos?” “What do you think you’re doing?” “Isn’t that some sort of conflict of interest?”

Well, maybe. But maybe not. Someone has to take photos of the photographer at some point. Have you ever tried to get decent looking family portraits of your own family? Its a pretty stressful task, I tell you. Besides, I have a quota of ONE DAY of full photographic cooperation from my husband per quarter (so 4 times a year). And Q1 is 2/3 of the way over… so why not enter a contest from another photographer – maybe It’ll give me a plan for Q2. 🙂

I’m okay with it. I entered.

And so should you!
